Dance & Wellness:
Sequoia Ascension offers a variety of traditional and cultural movement practices that include traditional West African dance, Powwow dances, Hip Hop, capoeira, somatic exercises, and nature walks. Additionally, we incorporate wellness practices such as basket weaving, medicine making, regalia making, and beading. These activities are integral to nurturing our physical and spiritual health, ensuring that our bodies remain vibrant homes for our souls. Many of these traditional practices, especially Native cultural traditions, are not easily accessible in Atlanta, and we are proud to play a leading role in making them available to our communities. By offering these practices, we help individuals connect to their roots and promote the cultural and personal well-being of our people.
Sequoia Ascension’s housing initiatives focus on creating spaces that foster a sense of belonging and sanctuary for our communities. Our Artist in Residence Program offers a year of subsidized housing to artists and culture bearers, while our Subsidized Studio Space for Spelman College dance majors supports the creative aspirations of emerging artists. We also offer an Affordable Student Housing Program and advocate for ethical land use practices in Atlanta’s art spaces. This advocacy is grounded in our deep connection to the land, informed by our Native stewardship traditions, and shaped by our commitment to sustainability. By ensuring that our community has access to safe, supportive spaces, Sequoia Ascension strengthens the foundation on which our creative work and traditions can flourish
